About this artwork
My oil on linen painting "The Philosopher's Path" depicts a misty mountainside on which a saffron clad Buddhist monk mediates as they walk down a steep stairway. A timeless moment captured. Peace holds the moment still. The world in the painting is quiet, and contemplative. The mist that shrouds the landscape creates a sense of peace and timelessness, isolating the figure in a moment of profound stillness.
The narrow, vertical canvas emphasizes the… steepness of the path and the solitary nature of the monk's journey. "The Philosopher's Path" for me is a visual metaphor for the introspective journey of the mind and spirit. The descending steps can symbolize a delving into deeper levels of consciousness or a return to a fundamental state of being. The monk's path represents the ongoing nature of spiritual practice.
