About this artwork
Parthenon Impressions 71
Parthenon Impressions 71 stands as one of the defining works in Gregory Christeas’s acclaimed “Impressions of the Parthenon” series—paintings born from a lifetime of memories of Greece’s greatest symbol of resilience. Using industrial oils on heavyweight paper, Christeas transforms the ancient temple’s rhythm of light, marble, and shadow into bold, contemporary abstraction.
The series grew into more than twenty works and… made its public debut during the Cultural Olympiad in Athens, 2004. Each painting reflects a tension between permanence and movement, stone and sea, antiquity and the present moment.
Gregory Christeas, born in Athens, Greece, in 1944, discovered his passion for abstract art early, guided by his mother’s nurturing influence. Over decades, he has built an illustrious career marked by numerous exhibitions, including the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004—where the Ministry of Progress and the National Department of Tourism presented 125 of his works. His painting Parallel captures the essence of the Aegean Sea, translating childhood memories into waves of form and color. Each stroke reflects fluidity, emotion, and introspection, inviting viewers into a meditative journey. Deeply connected to nature, Christeas channels the rhythm of sea and sky, revealing harmony within chaos. Humble and contemplative, he allows his art to speak in silence—an invitation to pause and find beauty in the present. As Gregory Christeas continues to paint, his brushstrokes become whispers of wisdom, his colors fragments of dreams.
