About this artwork
Abstract work based on Germinal by Émile Zola (1885), printed on Hahnemühle Ultra Smooth 305g paper (150 x 76 cm).
The entire text becomes plastic material and unfolds into an abstract composition. From a distance, an enigmatic surface; up close, each word of the novel resurfaces, inviting a fragmentary and intimate reading.

Grégory Valentin transforms complete literary texts into abstract visual works. Each painting is composed of the entire text of a book, meticulously transcribed and structured to form a visual composition in which the literary content becomes graphic material. This work questions the place of great texts in our society and their ability to transcend time in a new form. The apparent abstraction invites the viewer to approach: behind the visual veil, the text remains intact, visible, on the edge of readability, in a format that preserves its essence.
