About this artwork
This letterpress print explores the material presence of Gutenberg technology using cast lead type. Through reversal and the interplay of positive and negative space, the work challenges the linear logic of print and reopens language toward image and inscription.
The series pays homage to French polymath Boris Vian, whose layered creativity resonates with Cepoglu’s exploration of writing as material, architecture, and lived experience.
Gulizar Cepoglu is a renowned visual artist and graphic designer, expertly blending editorial design, typography, print, and sculptural forms, grounded in her distinguished training in London and Istanbul. She combines traditional letterpress with digital and 3D technologies, approaching typography as spatial, material, and structural, pushing the boundaries between text and image. Her works vibrantly invite viewers to experience meaning as an emergent, relational process, dissolving rigid dichotomies, and evoking a sense of discovery, visibility, and transformation within the act of reading and seeing.
