About this artwork
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer (Killed at 31 during the first World War)
I wanted… to capture the stark beauty of the dead Tree, they stand out so wonderfully bleached white against the background of lush green and deep sky blue.
During a walk on the heathland of Forest Row, East Sussex there seemed to be too many dead trees and I could not help but think of the current Extinction Rebellion protests taking place around London. So this is my Pollution Protest Painting, even without Global Warming surely we should be paying much more attention to the catastrophic pollution we are inflicting on the environment.
