About this artwork
Canvas painted with a knife, ready to hang thanks to its support on the back of the canvas.
Gyslaine Pachet Micheneau met these boules players during a game of pétanque. She appreciated the gesture and posture of the men playing under the plane trees in a small village in the south of France.
In the 19th century, while almost every region introduced a variant of use, the Southerners were passionate about the long or Provençal game with simplified… rules, the free choice of terrain, but where the shooters took three racing steps to gain momentum. It is this game that Marcel Pagnol describes in his childhood memories (Le Temps des amours) and which was included in the film My Mother's Castle. Pétanque, seduced the artist, by the game of each person, the men here were highlighted, on this colorful and lively canvas of a place in Provence shaded by the shade of the plane trees
