About this artwork
Slump is when movement is stagnant and everything feels impossible. I laid for 6 months as if a ball and chain were clasped around my neck. I couldn’t get up. All senses and my sense of self were being overridden. Feeling hollow and disconnected from my spirit, I lose trust in myself as the grief from the dark red aloe flower pierces through my body. Meanwhile, a white snake coils like innards, symbolising the ancestor spirits that have made a home…
inside me.

« As a lotus flower is born in water, grows in water, and rises out of the water to stand above it unsoiled, so I, born in the world, raised in the world having overcome the world, live unsoiled by the world. »
