About this artwork
Bold black brushstrokes, partially obscured by subsequent layers, juxtapose with hard edged passages of off whites, reds and blues. Many interesting textures add to the energy of the picture surface. To me the colors are reminiscent of a carnival midway, hence the title.

Hal Mayforth is a prize-winning American artist who has exhibited his paintings in the United States. In addition to his illustrations, he also creates large-scale abstract compositions. Mayforth is inspired by numerous sources, including vintage comics and cartoons, as well as American petroglyphs, and outsider art. He begins each work by painting in a gestural manner, then painstakingly edits, both adding and removing elements, sometimes taking months to complete a single piece.
