About this artwork
Bold black brushstrokes juxtaposed with areas of ochre, grays and subtle textures, interspersed in a light blue matrix. Painted after a work that had unleashed color, in this one I reined it in bit and limited my palette to ochre, grays, purple and light blue.

Hal Mayforth is a prize-winning American artist who has exhibited his paintings in the United States. In addition to his illustrations, he also creates large-scale abstract compositions. Mayforth is inspired by numerous sources, including vintage comics and cartoons, as well as American petroglyphs, and outsider art. He begins each work by painting in a gestural manner, then painstakingly edits, both adding and removing elements, sometimes taking months to complete a single piece.
