A cheerful composition of lose, sinewy brush marks on a background of greens, blues and yellows. This was painted in the heat of the summer, and reminded me of a field of marigolds under a pristine blue sky.

Hal Mayforth is a prize-winning American artist who has exhibited his paintings in the United States. In addition to his illustrations, he also creates large-scale abstract compositions. Mayforth is inspired by numerous sources, including vintage comics and cartoons, as well as American petroglyphs, and outsider art. He begins each work by painting in a gestural manner, then painstakingly edits, both adding and removing elements, sometimes taking months to complete a single piece.
