About this artwork
A hard edged abstraction of reds, blues and unsaturated browns and grays. This painting started out with spontaneous lines and added and subtracted until the final composition presented itself. Many textures here. Painted in early spring, soon after the robins arrived.

Hal Mayforth is a prize-winning American artist who has exhibited his paintings in the United States. In addition to his illustrations, he also creates large-scale abstract compositions. Mayforth is inspired by numerous sources, including vintage comics and cartoons, as well as American petroglyphs, and outsider art. He begins each work by painting in a gestural manner, then painstakingly edits, both adding and removing elements, sometimes taking months to complete a single piece.
