About this artwork
A texture-rich composition of colored shapes on a textured background of grays and off whites. The layering of colors allows previous layers of color to show through, making for a lively surface. Painting reminded me of Tent Rocks, beautiful natural rock formations north of Albuquerque, NM.

Hal Mayforth is a prize-winning American artist who has exhibited his paintings in the United States. In addition to his illustrations, he also creates large-scale abstract compositions. Mayforth is inspired by numerous sources, including vintage comics and cartoons, as well as American petroglyphs, and outsider art. He begins each work by painting in a gestural manner, then painstakingly edits, both adding and removing elements, sometimes taking months to complete a single piece.
