About this artwork
Breathe in… Breathe out. A mantra… An automatism… An unavoidable rule…
The basic rhythm on which our life is based and from which we can read the irregular fluctuations.
With the work “In & Out” I deal with the narrow line that separates us from the breath-suffocating feeling of depression and the liberating breath of redeeming normality.
The work is divided into two canvases hanging one above the other, which embody a completely contrasting… emotional world, while visually speaking almost the same language.
While "Out" symbolizes the struggle, endurance, and strength in the calm persistence of the last breath, "In" promises the liberating release of the first breath when you resurface from the depths of your emotional world. The moment when you break out of the water and your lungs fill with fresh air for the first time after the feeling of vacuum, emptiness, and despair. Liberation!
Hannah Bömer draws on her experience in interior design and scenography, working primarily with acrylic paint but also experimenting with plastic and other materials. Her technique combines modern expressionism with surrealist and cartoon-like elements, always remaining open to new material discoveries. Her works transform personal experiences and emotions into multi-layered images that impressively and accessiblely convey a deep inner world of feelings and the experience of sensations.
