About this artwork
In this expressionist and metaphysical work, I explore inner transformation to evoke deep and mysterious emotions. I wanted to capture the essence of a spiritual shift, as if fears and hopes were echoing in the breeze felt from the flapping of the wings of the moth. Moths, are fascinating creatures. The coloration and patterns of their upper wings are shaped by natural selection to match the patterns of the tree bark on which the moths camouflage… themselves. The Saturniidae family contains some of the largest moths in the world. A unique characteristic of those moths are their eye-like shapes on its lower wings. When they feel threatened, they spread their upper wings, revealing the large eyes, this startles the predator, and the moth escapes and lands on the tree. I invite you to the forest of moths, it’s a full moon night, and the air is crisp. With every liftoff of a moth, is an opportunity to stretch the time, slow it down, and let it take your breath away.
