About this artwork
Painting 431 is framed - Frame: Museumskartoon Doree, African wenge wood, UV 70 glass and costs an additional €290.
Since 2004, Hanno Otten has systematically explored the mechanisms of painting by asking fundamental questions: What is painting? How does painting work? He seeks the answers not through intellectual analysis, but finds them in artistic, practical activity. His aim is to grasp the workings of painting visually, to understand them… directly through seeing. This exploration of the subject has resulted in various series of works, which Hanno Otten has grouped under the title "ABOUT PAINTING".
What is painting made of? What effects do different techniques achieve? How do colors interact? How do motifs alter the effect of colors? Otten explores these questions in ever-new approaches. His materials: graphite and mica paste, oil and acrylic, spray paint, varnish, and oil pastels, applied to paper and canvas.
Hanno Otten works as a painter, photographer, draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor, possessing a broad artistic background with a focus on color theory and visual perception. He is known for his camera-less, abstract color experiments on light-sensitive paper and his intensive exploration of the precision and complexity of visual languages. His works invite profound reflection and convey a compelling blend of rational clarity and poetic emotionality.
