About this artwork
In this digital work I fuse surrealism with classical painting to create a unique expression of my appreciation for Leonardo da Vinci. I used the original title of Leonardo da Vinci "La Gioconda" (the cheerful one).
Instead of the Mona Lisa, I chose a female orangutan, whose iconic pose, gentle smile and gaze invite us to reflect on human nature and our connection to the animal world. The warm color scheme and familiar landscape in the background… highlight the unusual yet calming presence of this creature, a true celebration of the merging of two worlds.
This digital painting is printed on aluminum dibond using lightfast UV direct printing and framed with a black shadow gap frame. The edition of the painting for sale is limited to 4 copies, numbered and hand-signed. A further copy remains with the artist

Hans Batschauer is a German painter who exhibits nationally and internationally in both group and solo exhibitions.
Originally painting with oil and acrylic, since 2021 he has focused entirely on digital painting in the style of New Surrealism.
He creates “transformative and mysterious paintings,” as he himself writes, which convey a unique visual language of suggestive power in luminous colors.
In doing so, he does not imitate classical painting techniques, but creates complex hybrid compositions using a whole range of digital tools.
At the heart of his often symbolically and religiously charged picture stories is man with his feelings, dreams and longings.
