About this artwork
The painting tells a story: on the left, a dove of peace, a reference to Magritte, appears in my work, dispersing a storm. Unfortunately, the storm also brings down a lighthouse; on the right, it lies on the ground. In the foreground, a geometric still life symbolizes a lavishly set table, inviting the viewer to sit down and enjoy the tragedy unfolding like a film in the background.
Hans-Christian Harten is a passionate painter who primarily uses oil, watercolor, and ink, having perfected his techniques autodidactically. With expressive-constructivist methods, inspired by music and mathematical structure, he creates complex, architectural compositions that combine abstraction, surrealism, and realistic elements. His works convey a fascinating tension between rationality and emotion, freedom and system, always imbued with depth, irony, and emotional intensity. Brief biography: Born in 1948, studied political science and philosophy, professor of sociology and history of education at the Free University of Berlin and LMU Munich. From 1998 to 2002, he worked as a freelance artist in Berlin. Afterwards, he resumed academic research. Since 2025, he has focused primarily on his artistic work.
