About this artwork
The image contrasts the system of a rationally ordered, techno-mechanical world with anatomical sections that recall the vulnerability of the human body. I have tried to find an expression for the victim's hopelessness and powerlessness in the face of an absolute power that has the potential to destroy the victim's body or, through the threat of its destruction, to stifle all resistance. In this sense, the violated body is inherent in every "order… of torture."
Hans-Christian Harten is a passionate painter who primarily uses oil, watercolor, and ink, having perfected his techniques autodidactically. With expressive-constructivist methods, inspired by music and mathematical structure, he creates complex, architectural compositions that combine abstraction, surrealism, and realistic elements. His works convey a fascinating tension between rationality and emotion, freedom and system, always imbued with depth, irony, and emotional intensity. After a long, work-related hiatus, Hans-Christian Harten resumed his artistic work in 2025 and is now presenting his complete oeuvre on Singulart, primarily oil paintings created between 1997 and 2002, along with some more recent works. He has continuously developed his concept of serial constructivism, which combines expressive and surrealist elements, since his youth. For more details, visit hc-harten.net
