In this series of paintings depicting drinkers (kava, as here, tea or any other ceremonial drink), two characters, sitting here above the pavement of some terrace opening on a luxuriant tropical forest, drink in silence . They share, through an act that can be simply anecdotal, religious or mystical, a moment of… silence and communion with the night, with nature and with human society.

Hans Vergara is an experienced Cuban artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited internationally. He is inspired by his multicultural upbringing between Spanish, African, French, and Chinese influences, and fills his works with mythological figures and Afro-Cuban divinities. Painting mostly in oil on canvas, Vergara creates semi-abstract scenes full of mystery and magic, celebrating the poetic marriage of myths and religions.
