About this artwork
"Blue Spirit" is a painting that concluded a series I called "Blue Men." It consisted of fourteen paintings, five of which were on canvas.
I represented man as crucified, a religious symbol par excellence; as the culmination of a circle; that of life.
Starting from blue, a character was represented (simple structure like a child's drawing), clay powder was introduced as a color and binder... Blue and clay powder are the two elements water and earth:… Water makes up more than 60% of us, and clay powder, to remind us of the link to the earth.
The moon for the influence it can have.
The movements that make up the painting represent the tumult that agitates us, the one that surrounds us.
The name Blue Spirit is for the hope that, despite everything, it carries and transmits.
Hassan Zanoune, a self-taught artist, explores various mediums such as watercolor, oil, and clay. He uses a dreamlike figurative technique and often draws inspiration from the human body. His creations, often dominated by blue tones, depict humankind, the environment, and emotion, offering a visual discourse on the connection between men and women, our planet, and our society. The powerful emotion felt in his works is a testament to his world of introspection, reverie, and colorful balance.
