My sculpture "hoppala" depicts a falling alabaster woman, who, with a smile, is caught by her own wings or net of red wire. The alabaster is partially translucent and appears fragile, yet strong and stable. When creating the sculpture, I asked myself what falling is like for different people. My sculpture falls and is simultaneously caught by itself.

Heike Drescher
Germany
Heike Drescher, raised in a family of sculptors and puppeteers, creates stone sculptures. Her slow and deliberate handcrafting technique defies the hectic world and allows her to uncover hidden corners of the world. Through reduced forms and rough surfaces, she creates tension and ambiguity, playing humorously with details. Her sculptures express emotions and point to the complexity of our experiences.
