My sculpture Poly.Mar. depicts an archaic face made of Portuguese marble with a headdress made of plastic mesh.
It establishes the connection between the old and the new. The primal quality of the face, with its delicate colors and marble veins, and the energy of the headdress, which strives upwards and is inherently stable despite its apparent fragility.
Lightness cancels out heaviness, and heaviness maintains lightness. A perfect symbiosis.

Heike Drescher, raised in a family of sculptors and puppeteers, creates stone sculptures. Her slow and deliberate handcrafting technique defies the hectic world and allows her to uncover hidden corners of the world. Through reduced forms and rough surfaces, she creates tension and ambiguity, playing humorously with details. Her sculptures express emotions and point to the complexity of our experiences.
