About this artwork
The watercolor… combines clear landscape references with a free, dynamic painting style. Eckstein works with transparent glazes, spontaneous brushstrokes, and fine speckles of color, which makes the mountain world appear not static, but rather permeated by light, air, and movement. "Karwendel with Falkenhütte" is a characteristic example of Eckstein's atmospheric watercolor art and his feel for alpine spaces.

(H. Eckstein 1929 - 2006)
Hellmut Eckstein, born in 1929 in Brandenburg an der Havel, discovered his passion for painting while still at school. After the Second World War and various stints, including being a prisoner of war in England, he began an apprenticeship in graphic design. In addition to his job as a graphic artist, Eckstein continued his artistic work, inspired by nature and his travels, especially to Italy. He took part in exhibitions and joined artists' circles. In 1988 he stopped working and was able to devote himself entirely to painting. Eckstein's works, such as acrylic and oil paintings, watercolors and his figurative graphite drawings, were well received both publicly and privately and are now part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections. In 2006 Eckstein died suddenly in a Munich hospital.
