About this artwork
View of a gondola on the Grand Canal in Venice with red armchair and shimmering reflections on the lagoon.
The current appearance of the gondola dates back to the 16th century. The color black has been imposed since that time to put an end to the ruinous competition which opposed the rich Venetians, ambitious to have the most richly decorated boat.
The painting contrasts the black wood of the gondola, and the red and golden reflections of the… lagoon.

« To show what is beautiful in all things, even in those which seem the most banal. »
Henri Remi’s artworks evoke seaside scenes as well as landscapes and scrublands. The award-winning French painter has exhibited on a national level with his realistic and strongly Impressionist artworks. However, he tries to depart from this by using a knife and regularly scratching the surface of his compositions, bringing out innovative shapes and surfaces. Remi paints using extra fine Sennelier oils.
