About this artwork
In the series Desseins Eternels I also adhere to the rules of the game that emerge from the paint and the act of painting itself. Underneath that game there is a force field that impels connection. The choices and positioning arise from the paint, brush, size and what is at hands. In the dialogue with the matter I try to listen, to follow. It is in the surrender to ‘not knowing’ that the force of that field is felt. In Messiaen's music I feel the… same formative power at work.
I learned a lot from Chinese art, the ink paintings. The role of the brush in it, the focus on the act, the order that is being followed and ritualized. In this ritual one handles the shaping power, one is drawing from the creative well itself.
« Everything in the world revolves around connection. One thing leads to another, nothing is available separately. »
Henrie Vogel is an experienced artist based in the Netherlands whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions nationally. Identifying with the New Materialism movement, his works center around the concept of connection. For Vogel, this connection is translated through an intuitive dialogue with the material. He most often creates with acrylics, oils, ink, and pigments on canvas.
