About this artwork
To see what I did not see before, that is what my work is all about. Every painting starts as an insignificant place. A painting does not wait for me- before I know it, nothing happens, and thus the painting leaves me. If am I willing to be silent, and allow the matter to take me by the hand, it can result in the painting revealing to me what I did not see before. This new image reveals me the ground of my existence.
I developed a special technique… to apply the oil paint. I use paper to print the paint on the canvas. It is a primitive printing technique. The many layers and directions create a strong emphasis on the materiality of the paint. I keep working until the image evokes a mystical effect that I also feel at the place of inspiration.
« Everything in the world revolves around connection. One thing leads to another, nothing is available separately. »
Henrie Vogel is an experienced artist based in the Netherlands whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions nationally. Identifying with the New Materialism movement, his works center around the concept of connection. For Vogel, this connection is translated through an intuitive dialogue with the material. He most often creates with acrylics, oils, ink, and pigments on canvas.
