About this artwork
The work consists of a variety of wood varieties, which were cut together as a sliced veneer. This gives the elegant work something traditional, which stands in playful contrast to the pop of the motif. ARES is the Greek god of war, one of the twelve olympic gods. The Romans later equated him with the god Mars. As such, the artwork had a role in a complex mural "In Orbit of Mars", in the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, and in the HMKV in Dortmund.…
In the present form ARES is based on a character from the computer game "Injustice". The media connection between computer game, fantasy and digital space on the one hand and wood veneer, which rather comes from a good bourgeois world of the 19Jh, unfolds its own charm.
