About this artwork
The painting is almost completely filled by a Medusa head, which was painted after the "Medusa Rondanini" in the Munich Glyptothek and which expresses both beauty and the fearful stare of death. Above it are two heads of Christ after El Greco, which correspond to the type of the "Vera Ikon", the "unpainted image" of the face of the suffering Christ on Veronika's shroud. A connection is thus established between the iconic image of Christ as the savior…
and that of Medusa, which in myth was considered to bring death.
