About this artwork
The ancient god Pan has a long history, stretching from the early beginnings of culture to modern times. The latter, in his ancient goat-legged and horned form, also provided the model for the figure of the anti-Christian devil, who in his Goethean paraphrase of Mephistopheles functions as the spirit “who always wants evil and always creates good”. If we also consider that Pan and his fauns are part of Dionysus' entourage, it becomes clear that the…
two ancient ex-gods have had an unparalleled success story in the afterlife of antiquity. For these overpainted collages I used two paintings by Nicholas Poussin as image sources: “Triumph of Pan” and “Bacchanal”.

Heribert Heere uses collage, paintings (oil, acrylic, watercolor), digital media, and photography; his artistic development was honed at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and shaped by art historical studies.
