About this artwork
Stone walls provide field boundaries as well as shelter for livestock and blend… into the Lakeland scenery beautifully. However, the roots lie as far back as the middle ages when first enclosure took place in the early 13th century. Stone walls are, as it were, the eyewitness of English history and the embodiment of vernacular art making each highland scenery uniquely special. Sobue just wanted to portray them as a taciturn yet honest witness of the history situated quietly in the midst of the Lake District widely know for its rough weather. Hence the title, "Evening Rain".
