About this artwork
I am often asked why my works are not finished. Why they are not smoothed.
For me, the most important thing is the process of creating a work. I want this process to be visible. The traces of all the tools to be visible. The viewer to understand the whole event. To feel it and sympathize with me.
At the time when 3D woodworking routers came out, I was a little scared... Well, with such a machine you can do anything you set in the computer...
But… with the machine there is a workflow. Precise and clear from start to finish.
There is no mistake!!
But the mistakes are beautiful.
They are part of our creative process. Some time ago I used to get angry when my chainsaw went off course and made the wrong cut. Now I know that this cut is exactly in its place. It helps me and is part of the process. From my process, when I work with my hands and my heart. The chainsaw and hands never make mistakes when you are honest in your emotion and what you create.

Hristo Kirilov is an experienced sculptor based in Bulgaria whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. In his most recent pieces, he explores the theme of the face, depicting the faces of mythology, those that belong to people he meets in everyday life, as well as in his dreams. Kirilov exclusively creates with wood and when the
traditional technique of wood carving was no longer enough for him, he began using a chainsaw, and now employs an ax.
