In this painting I have captured the powerful calm and hidden beauty of ancient architecture. The gentle arches and bright, warm colors of the walls contrast with the cooling presence of nature in the background, symbolizing man's encounter with his environment. I only visited… and learned to appreciate Milan as an adult. The city has enough historical and modern things to remain interesting. As was the case here. I was strolling through the streets not far from the cathedral when I noticed an open passageway that would normally have been closed off by the wrought iron gate but was now open. I decided to go in and stood in front of the cross vault whose central pillar bore the weight of the whole: next to the stairs there was another rustic fresco.
