About this artwork
"Ancestors" (2019) explores that invisible current that flows through generations, carrying stories, traumas, dreams, and longings. The white layers and glazes act like memory: they cover the past, but allow the depth of what has been inherited to continue to emerge from the background.
Technique and Aesthetics: The piece is constructed with a monochrome base of ink and acrylic, where the asemic writing represents that genetic and emotional information… that we cannot always read, but which shapes us. The accents of color, turquoise and violet, break the density of the old to point to present life, the space for healing, and the act of honoring the energy of those who came before.
It lends the space a sense of reflective calm and historical depth. It is an invitation to look back with respect so that we can move forward with greater clarity.
