About this artwork
This painting explores the complex and often contradictory nature of love through a surreal and symbolic visual language. At the center of the composition floats an organic, heart-like form composed of intertwined ribbons of color — deep reds, warm oranges, and soft flesh tones. The form appears alive, constantly transforming, suggesting the emotional turbulence that accompanies love: tenderness, passion, confusion, suffering, and vulnerability.…
The composition is loosely inspired by The Castle of the Pyrenees by René Magritte. In Magritte’s work, a floating rock supports a castle — an image often interpreted as a metaphor for impossible or illusory dreams. Referencing this idea, the suspended form in Reminiscence of Love becomes a symbol of emotional “air castles”: the fragile and sometimes unrealistic dreams people build around love. These dreams can feel powerful and beautiful, yet they often exist in a delicate balance between hope and illusion.
