Mural created for the City of Council Bluffs and the Council Bluffs Public Library for this Library Booth. The painting wants to communicate the love and freedom that literature can bring. The use of birds, native Iowa trees (white ash) along with books of several colors.
In this vivid creation, I played with the boundaries of surrealism and pop art, steeped in latex, to bring life to an everyday space. The kiosk… transforms into a whimsical realm where vibrant birds glide between books, symbolizing knowledge and imagination flying together in harmony. This art infuses the area with a jovial spirit, encouraging passersby to dive into the depths of reading and the colors of creativity.

Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
