'La Pera' (the pear) was created as part of the annual Lotería exhibition at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. The piece shows a pear in the foreground and behind it there is a mischievous raccoon dressed like a gagster, with a overcoat and a bowler hat. This painting is an homage (and a parody) of the painting "Son of Man", the masterpiece… created by Rene Magritte about a man with an apple in front of his face.
Note: "Lotería is a traditional Mexican game of chance, similar to bingo, that uses images on a deck of cards instead of plain numbers. There are 54 images; each has a name and an assigned number. The cards are very colorful and the imagery on them is broadly recognized in all of Mexico, other Latin American countries, as well as European nations." Description by Cactus Gallery.

Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
