In creating this piece, I explored the surreal coexistence of hardship and character developing, symbolizing resilience and growth amidst challenges. The deer, with its expansive antlers where a cocoon is being developing, embodies strength and reach. The surreal backdrop, a stormy sky juxtaposed… with a serene field, mirrors the tumultuous yet hopeful journey of growth. This artwork, born from acrylic, collage, and graphite, is a testament to enduring beauty and transformation. It invites a powerful, meditative energy into any home, encouraging viewers to find harmony in the contrasting elements of their own lives.

Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
