This colorful semi abstract painting is inspired by the Guatemalan Folk Tale, El Cadejo.
Legend has it that anyone who wanders around drunk at night, risks of encountering the Cadejo, a mysterious being in the form of a black dog, with goat hooves and fiery eyes. It is said that if the wanderer's soul is pure, the Cadejo will help them find their home, but if their soul… is evil, the Cadejo will take over their consciousness.
This piece radiates strength and mystery, inviting a bold yet calming presence into your space. It’s an embrace of complexity, layering emotion and resilience that will inspire and protect wherever it lives.

Ilaamen Pelshaw is a Guatemalan painter based in the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Growing up with a grandfather who was an artist and muralist, Pelshaw became interested in art herself and developed a practice centered around positivity and warmth. Mostly working in acrylic on canvas, her work is always colorful and illustration based, whether through quirky animal portraits or paintings of Latin American culture and crafts.
