About this artwork
Southern Styria, oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm. Unlike my other landscape paintings, which I paint from levels and mostly execute in flowing brushstroke movements, I used the spatula for this hilly landscape in order to achieve more generous areas of color. Because I was born and grew up in southern Styria, it often happens that I receive an order to paint a typical southern Styrian hilly landscape. I don't feel original at all, because someone in this…
country will soon be painting such a landscape. In painting, I reproduce the image that the viewer might have of my future picture, and I paint a sunlit southern slope with vineyards in rows, with red ones House gables on the hilltops and some poplars.

Ingrid Kraus is an Austrian painter who became inspired to pursue an artistic career at age 19, after feeling a need to make something visibly meaningful out of stagnancy.
