“Storyfacing” is a poetic portrait drawn on found paper from a vintage Burda sewing magazine. The figure emerges from a backdrop of pattern instructions and fashion fragments, blending personal expression with the visual language of garment-making and domestic creativity.
This piece is part of a series that explores identity through layers of cultural memory. By using discarded pages from a Burda pattern magazine, I connect the act of drawing with… the history of making — both artistic and practical. The face in the portrait becomes a silent witness to the stories embedded in the paper: stories of clothing, femininity, and transformation.
“Storyfacing” invites viewers to reflect on how materials carry meaning, and how art can reframe the everyday into something poetic and personal.

Inna Stein uses watercolor, ink, and textile techniques and trained as a fashion designer at the Weißensee Academy of Art. She combines randomly generated structures with precise observations to create feminine silhouettes, often inspired by floral elements, patterns, and old photography.
