About this artwork
In "After the Crossing II" I explore decisive movement without pause or return. This painting is about going forward with full commitment, when the direction is clear and there is no space left for hesitation.
The composition is driven by strong contrast and dynamic flow. Warm ochre forms the ground, while deep navy blue and black create a powerful, advancing mass that cuts through the surface. Accents of cobalt blue introduce sharp energy and momentum,… pushing the composition forward rather than allowing it to settle.
I work with acrylic on canvas, using layered brushwork and palette knife textures to build tension, depth, and motion. From a distance, the darker areas appear almost black. Up close, they reveal complex shades of navy blue, reinforcing the sense of force and persistence.
This mid-sized painting speaks about determination and forward motion. "After the Crossing II" captures the state of moving on decisively, when the only direction left.
Irina Debowska is a self-taught painter whose intuitive background is deeply rooted in long-term observation and experimentation. She employs contemporary abstract techniques, using layering, texture, and subtle contrasts to build compositions with controlled gestures and a sense of balance. Her style merges structure and emotion, creating visual spaces that invite reflection and contemplation. Her works radiate a quiet intensity, offering viewers a profound pause to reconnect with their own internal landscapes.
