About this artwork
"Frozen Heart" is the first work in my series, in which I aim to capture my admiration and fascination for the world of birds. This painting is part of my Avian series.
I chose the Philippine Luzon Dagger-dove, a shy, predominantly ground-dwelling pigeon species. It lives hidden in dense forests and is now found only on the Philippine islands of Luzon and the Polillo Archipelago.
For the gemstone, I chose a raw angelite, whose soft, blue-gray… color reminds me of an iceberg, a symbol of the cold presence of loneliness. By depicting this dove, also called the "bleeding heart" dove, I want to address the pain of loss and the slow bleeding to death in the frozen, enduring silence of isolation.
Pigeons have a special meaning for me, and I am the proud owner of twelve. My love for them began when I raised a wild wood pigeon three years ago.
