About this artwork
The birth of the image on the surface of puddles left by the tide or by the coming and going of the waves is one of my favorite subjects.
I often wander along the beaches at low tide with my camera to catch their sightings. The reflection of the sky in the water is the birth of the image, and this fascination also comes from the myth of Narcissus.
It is a magical image that is constantly changing and renewed by the differences in the brightness… of the sky, the shapes of the puddles and the point of view that I try to retain.
After some reframing work to retain only this mirror of the inverted world, whose random contours are linked to the relief of the sand, the beach and the flow of the receding water, I can begin to paint...
This makes it a painting halfway between abstraction and figuration.
