About this artwork
The sculpture "Standing Folds I" represents a remarkable example of the combination of structural rigor and organic effect. The work is made of welded sheet steel with a deliberately induced rust patina, which gives the sculpture an earthy, almost archaic material effect.
The construction follows a clear geometric concept: surfaces that have been edged, folded, and welded together in a defined manner create a rhythmic tension. This tension arises… from the interplay between light and shadow, between surface and fold, between inside and outside. The clear, mathematically calculated structure stands in fascinating contrast to the organic-looking rust surface. This tension makes the sculpture appear both technical and poetic.
