About this artwork
thistle
The thistle emerges from a compact, earthy body, from which the blue and violet leaves almost explosively appear. Transparent glazes meet bold, gestural brushstrokes; the color follows the motif as much as its own gradients on the paper.
The watercolor oscillates between precise observation and free, painterly gesture. The resistant, almost architectural form of the thistle becomes the starting point for an investigation of growth, movement,… and color. The work belongs to the series "Brought by the Wind." The starting point is an idea from my project ARCHITECT: Not everything arises from planning. Plants appear, spread, and assert their place—unbidden and unplanned.
