About this artwork
Following a difficult period in my life where my partner at the time fell pregnant and miscarried, I had little choice but to pack up, move on and start over.
On the morning of my departure, I went for one last walk to the playground by the lake. Using a simple light setup I photographed the swings at the water’s edge. I was attempting a farewell to innocence. Not just my own, but also that of the unborn soul who gazed out from the shadows and, in… its wisdom, knew better than to venture out into the inferno.
It was only later, when I enlarged the image, that I became aware of the dancing orbs of light hovering at the top of the frame. While purists will dismiss this as the flash reflecting moisture in the air, I like to believe that I somehow managed to capture the agents of Divine Love and Providence that looked out for me, for her, in the course of those hellish months. And they've been with me ever since.

Jac Kritzinger is an award-winning fine art photographer with a rich background in travel, portrait, and documentary work, holding a BA Honors in Film and Visual Media.
Kritzinger expertly balances an edgy, stylized aesthetic with a sense of fundamental realism, utilizing emotive color pairing and dynamic lighting while aiming to capture moments authentically in-camera. For the most part, his photographs are deeply personal while at the same time evoking a sense of universal, mystical transcendence, transforming the ordinary into something sublime and deeply evocative. His more conceptual projects often features a strong social conscience and commentary on modern culture. The language of light ultimately illuminates all, and in that sense his work can be seen as a form of visual poetry, inviting viewers to reconnect with a World often lost in plain sight.
