About this artwork
The ragged township boys were playing on a trampoline hidden among the dunes. Their excited cries rang out amid the roar of traffic on the nearby road that led to white suburbia. I was feeling strangely detached with beads of sweat prickling down my back as they scanned my gear with hollow eyes. It was just another golden afternoon in Fuckland, the dear disaster that is South Africa. I managed to capture this image of a sole figure being suspended…
in mid-air, strangely lifeless but brimming with vitality, drifting into the Void.

Jac Kritzinger is an award-winning fine art photographer with a rich background in travel, portrait, and documentary work, holding a BA Honors in Film and Visual Media.
Kritzinger expertly balances an edgy, stylized aesthetic with a sense of fundamental realism, utilizing emotive color pairing and dynamic lighting while aiming to capture moments authentically in-camera. For the most part, his photographs are deeply personal while at the same time evoking a sense of universal, mystical transcendence, transforming the ordinary into something sublime and deeply evocative. His more conceptual projects often features a strong social conscience and commentary on modern culture. The language of light ultimately illuminates all, and in that sense his work can be seen as a form of visual poetry, inviting viewers to reconnect with a World often lost in plain sight.
