Jacek Lazuka was born on the Fourth of July, 1975 - a date that says everything about who he would become. Born in Warsaw, Poland, he arrived in the United States at the age of four, leaving communist Poland behind for a country he would come to love completely.
That transition was not easy. Raised in a Polish-speaking household, young Jacek faced the American world as an outsider. He could not yet speak its language, so he spoke through art. His paintings opened doors that words could not. Teachers noticed. Awards followed. Two worlds. Two cultures. One artist, American-made, unapologetically his.
Driven to earn a college education, Jacek enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served with distinction as an airplane mechanic, crew chief in Okinawa, Japan from 1996 to 2000, receiving an Honorable Discharge. In those quiet hours away from duty, he studied the European masters, explored oil techniques, and absorbed the elegant simplicity of the Japanese aesthetic — all in private.
