About this artwork
The latest and largest of the Luna Series and in reality twice the size as our own moon. Its dense atmosphere prevents us viewing its face, which lies beneath swirling gasses. This idea intrigued me to imagine what lies beneath this veil of haze and cloud.
I wanted to create a lot of contrast so chose to paint on a copper disc, suspended in deep black as if it was a snapshot at night, literally hovering in the frame moments before continuing its… orbit only to reappear the next night. I researched and found the worlds ‘blackest black’ paint in order to create this illusion, and had custom made discs for which I etched and scraped the paint through. The material is highly reflective so has a big impact on its environment especially when lit.

« My work is the study and recreation of landscapes, either real or imaginary. I paint to connect to these landscapes and be present in them. »
