About this artwork
Q.U.E.E.N is part of the Momentum series celebrating everyday women and was inspired by the courage of Janelle Monae in embracing the non-normal. Like all pieces in the series is both figurative and abstract -- abstracting the motion of the dance into a rhythmic geometry. The piece starts with a wax model at a 1/3 human scale. The model is then digitized and manipulated digitally using multiple computer programs. The individual components are…
fabricated and assembled. The piece uses traditional woodworking as well as advanced computer-aided manufacturing (CNC fabrication). The wood is marine-grade Douglas Fir and the assembly is fully waterproof. However, the piece will darken and gray if exposed to UV rays. The sculpture is on industrial casters -- part of the aesthetic.

Jackie Braitman is an experienced sculptor from the United States whose work has been featured in solo exhibitions nationally.
